Achievements

The Chair's Achievements:

1. Isolation of Alkhumra virus (AHFV) for the first time in the international literature on the mosquito cell line C/36 from the mosquito (Aedes albopictus), from patients at Najran district.
2. The isolated virus was identified by the PCR technique to be AHFV.
3. AHFV was isolated, for the first time in the literature,
in the brains of baby rats, which showed nervous signs and death.
4. Studies were conducted regarding the ability of AHFV to haemagglutinate the red blood cells from mammals and avian species.
5. Experiments were conducted to visualize AHFV under the electron microscope.
6. AHFV was successfully isolated in primary cell culture from baby rats' brains.
7. Prof. Tareq Madani, the head of the research team and Dr. Hussein Albar gave comprehensive enlightening clinico-epidemiological lectures to the medical staff and the public, in the different localities at Almakala, Hadra Mout, Yemen. The lecturers explained the dangers of hemorrhagic fevers to the humans and how to avoid them.
