Abstract : Based on the epidemiological and clinical observations on the outbreaks of the new hemorrhagic fever flaviviruses identified in Saudi Arabia made by the Chair of Hemorrhagic Viral Fevers research team which was published in number of peer reviewed papers, the international committee for taxonomy of viruses (ICTV) has been convinced to stick to the name of the new flavivirus as Alkhumra and not Alkhurma.
